Things to Do for Free in Bern

Bern, the capital of Switzerland, is a diversed

 and beautiful city.

Bern has quite a few attractions and historic sites, as well as active cultural life.
I had the chance to visit the city and see its natural beauty....and the memories goes on and on...

It is easy to get around by foot in Bern and the tourist attractions are mainly in the city centre.  Switzerland is known to be an expensive travellers destination and Bern is not an exception. Though it is an expensive city, that is not the focus of this article. We will identify places that is free to enjoy, places that you can visit without spending entrance fees. If you are into it, go ahead and continue reading...

The only place that our host spent his Swiss francs was when we had our lunch and dinner at restaurants. One of the most beautiful places and explicit ambiance is the Rosegarten or Rose Garden Restaurant overlooking the Münster-Cathedral in the Old Town. Our space in this restaurant is truly great that I took pictures of my hosts leaving no doubt that they will always be remembered.

The city was built with local sandstone in Gothic style with gables, bay windows, and more arcades than any of the city in Europe.

Zurich Experience ~ It's Worth Riding the Trolley

Zurich is worth remembering. There is no doubt, it's beautiful! There is more into it other than the tourist attractions.

A dear friend made our stay more pleasant from the very first day of our travel. We travelled by train from our hosts in Oberrordorf to the city of Zurich. It did not happen once. She showed us around Zurich for the second time.

The first was with fellow travellers from around Switzerland and other countries who came over to Zurich to attend this particular meet. It was Julz who made us comfortable and end the event with a bit of success. She toured us around like a pro. A very pleasant person, indeed.

During the tour, I was amazed on how huge this city and how large the number of financial institutions and banking giants it has. No wonder, it was once named the city with the best quality of life in the world as well as the wealthiest city in Europe. What I saw is exactly what I had in mind prior to my trip.

Aareschlucht in Switzerland is a Treasure

Not long ago, I had the chance of exploring a place I never thought I would.

It is an unbelievable experience! I consider this adventure a once in a lifetime.

Why did I say this?

It's mainly because the couple who made our trip to Aareschlucht possible, are travellers and my visit to Switzerland is actually long overdue.  It is not because of them, it is my unavailability.

Paul and Pacita travels a lot.  Our Swiss couple are real travellers in their own right. They are always out enjoying life.  In a minute they are up in the mountain, after a while she would send me a message that they are back on the road to another country.

Sweet Oberrohrdorf

View of the Alps from Oberrohrdorf
I was in Baden in the village of Oberrohrdorf very recently and it became my base on my journey to a couple of places in Switzerland.  It was so sweet, not only the hosts of this long-awaited tour of the country, but also the ambiance and the view right from the bedroom window where I was comfortably accommodated. Emotions exist from the time we were picked up at the Zurich International Airport until we reached the home with a big Canadian flag hoisted in front of their house.  The couple raised the flag in our honour and they said they want their neighbours and friends to know that this is the home where Canadian guests are being welcomed.
